This piece is classic Thom Hartmann, which is to say it is both enlightening and exciting.

We sure do find ourselves in boxes these days. And these boxes are more and more segregated - not just into subcultures anymore - but right down to a virtual locker with our given name stamped on it.

As technology intersects with our "Younger Culture", the idea of "We" appears more and more as though it is headed for hospice. The fallacy of "absolute individualism" is blooming - for now - but will always fail. For as much as our unwise culture imposes a virtual order over Life, Life is and always will be the hardware such mindlessness is recklessly built upon. Life will fail to provide for things which fail to provide for Life. We are not exceptional in our belongingness. We too must learn to be a part of Life, rather than assuming the privilege of "tourist enjoys consciousness while visiting sentient planet dying from tourism."
